“I was driving along on a country road and suddenly saw a barn owl on the fence post – at the ready to catch its prey, at the ready for the night time hunt. Sometimes we see them around the farms at night hunting rabbits, rodents, foxes, and small nocturnal animals.

Owls are a favourite of mine, favourite subject, and I’ve painted many over the years – this was one of the first.” ~ Mary Weaver

“This scene reminded me of seeing emus as I drove through out of Tocumwal, during summer, on a stinking hot day – at the peak of the summer heat. I was travelling through from Victoria to Queensland when I saw emus running in the hot, dry country.” ~ Mary Weaver

“I remember seeing the iris one morning as I was walking in a suburban Brisbane street – the sun was spotlighting this beautiful iris, amongst the untidy clutter of the plants outside the front fence. I started with a photo, and then the painting took on it’s own life – i loved the colours.” ~ Mary Weaver

“This reminded me of back in the late 70′s when we used to take a flat bottom boat up the Broken River at Shepparton, or along the Murray, and we’d see all the ibis in and around the river on dusk amongst the river red gums and other eucalypts.” ~ Mary Weaver
